What are our priorities?
Royston First, sponsored by generous funding from Johnson Matthey Plc, consulted with all the businesses in the business district area - the majority of whom responded enthusiastically. We also undertook extensive market research on the streets of the town centre, and by phone with residents, visitors and even those who don’t visit but should! Based on our findings we have prepared a series of actions that will go a long way to resolving the issues identified.

Further discussion of our priorities
The results of our research were grouped under a series of headings that define the scope of the prioritised actions we plan to undertake over five years:

Projects to make Royston a better place to live
Initiatives to create a better-looking and performing town
Measures to improve security for people and premises
Marketing and Promotion of the town and its assets

These strands are listed in the order determined by our consultation with businesses in and out of town. They clearly put community-based projects at the head of the requirement of the BID as it proceeds with the process of improving Royston. After these, the next key issue was the appearance and offer of the town itself. Our activities are intended to re-introduce civic pride by enhancing its assets whilst making Royston easier and more convenient to use regularly. Cleaner and safer are natural goals which apply equally to the industrial estate, where signage is a particular issue too. Finally, once we have “polished” Royston, we want to extol it to a wider audience by making more of its history, culture and diversity. Events, festivals and added attractions will give ample opportunity to bring extra life, fun and enjoyment to Royston.
